Is palliative care the same as hospice?

No. Palliative care can begin at any stage of a serious illness and may be provided alongside treatment for that illness. Medicare hospice eligibility generally requires certification that a patient is expected to live six months or less if the illness follows its usual course, plus an election of comfort-focused hospice care for the terminal illness. A patient may revoke that hospice election.

Who qualifies for palliative care in Naples?

Adults living with a serious illness may benefit from a palliative care evaluation when symptoms, treatment burden, or stress affect quality of life. This can include people living with cancer, heart failure, COPD, kidney disease, Parkinson's, ALS, dementia, and other serious conditions.
